If you are thinking YES and YES, please keep reading because we are now looking for a Legal Counsel, Governance and Ethics & Compliance to join Stora Enso’s Ethics and Compliance Team!

As a Legal Counsel, Governance and Ethics & Compliance, you will assume an overall responsibility for the governance practices of Stora Enso. You will, e.g., keep up and develop group governance documentation and follow up governance development. You will participate in insider administration and follow governance legislation globally. You will also support the EVP, Legal & General Counsel by preparing board and AGM materials.

While approximately 50% of your role is covered by governance, the remaining 50% will be allocated to acting as a member of Stora Enso’s Ethics & Compliance (E&C) team, which is an expert function that leads the overall E&C works for the entire Stora Enso. Now, such 50% with E&C will be dedicated to being the subject matter expert for the Packaging Solutions Division, with possible changes and rotations in the future.

You will play a critical role in delivering the E&C strategy and executing the E&C program as a part of your team. You will work both proactively and reactively to implement the E&C strategy as well as facilitate the execution of the E&C program within Stora Enso. You will, e.g., perform risk assessments, maintain regular contact with key employees, offer solutions to ad hoc E&C issues, and perform ethics & compliance investigations. Together with your team, you attempt to manage information in digital form by using AI, and thus continuously work towards making the routines more efficient and better.

You will join Ethics and Compliance Team that is one of the three sub-teams of Stora Enso’s Group Legal. The team consists of around 10 professionals in several global locations. The position is based at Stora Enso’s headquarters in Katajanokka, Helsinki, but the position also involves occasional, pre-planned travel, mostly within Europe. You will report to the SVP, Ethics & Compliance, and in governance-related matters, to the EVP, Legal & General Counsel.

This position is a perfect fit for a lawyer who has:

✅ a Finnish legal degree and at least 4 years of relevant post-graduate working experience preferably from an in-house legal department of a multinational company or a publicly listed company, or from a law firm or legal consultancy setting. If you are an experienced professional, we would be happy to hear from you as well;

✅ ideally, a background combining both listed company governance and compliance, but we are also open to candidates who are experts in either and eager to expand their knowledge;

✅ a solid track record in implementing and executing projects in governance and policy making;

✅ a proven integrity and high ethical standard as well a strong drive for getting things done and ability to adapt to pressure and short deadlines;

✅ strong interpersonal skills and a team player mindset; and

✅ strong communication skills – fluency in both written and oral English and Finnish is required.
