Korkia is an accelerator of the energy transition. Korkia invests in and co-develops utility-scale renewable energy projects, with a mission to produce renewable megawatts to the market. As Korkia’s Legal Counsel, your main focus is to support Korkia’s different teams in legal needs linked to Korkia’s project development, corporate matters, financing and transactions. Korkia operates by forming JV companies with local renewable energy developers around the globe, who in turn get access to funding, expertise and international networks through co-operating with Korkia. Currently, Korkia typically exits the projects once they reach ready to build stage, but Korkia has also capabilities to further develop a selection of projects to contracting phase and even until they become operative.

As a Legal Counsel, you will support Korkia’s team in managing the project portfolio – including drafting and negotiating transactional agreements and documents related to investments and exits, advising in deal-structuring and financing, and supporting while negotiating key commercial contracts (e.g. EPC & PPA). Considering the international scope of Korkia’s business, beside the own inhouse legal team, you will work closely with Korkia’s external legal advisors, making sure that they operate in line with Korkia’s governance model and legal standards.

In this role, you will be based in Helsinki, Finland, and report to Korkia’s General Counsel. In addition to the General Counsel, Korkia’s legal team consists of two legal counsels working in corresponding legal roles and supporting Korkia in all phases of project development as well as regulatory compliance, ESG and privacy matters depending on their own focus areas. Korkia’s head office is located in central Helsinki, and the team works based on a flexible hybrid model. However, we hope that – considering the needs of a fast-paced project-based business environment – you would be happy to work on-site at least a couple days per week during most weeks.

When identifying interesting candidates, we are not only after a relevant legal competence, but equally importantly, we are looking for a strong culture match: a lawyer who has a strong drive to develop and use their skills to promote Korkia’s business goals.

You could be the Legal Counsel we are looking for, if:

✅ You are a qualified lawyer (LL.M) with ideally at least 4 years of post-graduate experience e.g. from a top-tier business law firm’s relevant practice group (with a focus on e.g. energy transactions, finance, tax & structuring or private M&A) or relevant inhouse legal background for instance from the field of energy production or investment.

✅ You are fluent in communicating in English – Finnish (and other) language skills are a plus but not an absolute requirement.

✅ You are a versatile lawyer – individuals who thrive at Korkia’s legal team tend to be eager to assume an overall responsibility over whatever legal need it is that the company may have.

✅ You enjoy working at a project-based and multinational business environment in a growth company set-up; we are looking for someone who wants to take proactive ownership and works in an effective, flexible and business-oriented manner.
